What the Life Path reveals
The Life Path does not reveal everything about a person, but it provides a very strong foundation for understanding the overall meaning of their journey.
It indicates an evolutionary direction. It highlights the major lessons. It shows the type of energy that life encourages you to develop. It sheds light on situations that play a formative role in your life.
This number therefore acts as a guiding principle. It does not replace the other numbers in the chart, but it helps explain why certain experiences recur, why certain qualities need to be developed, and why certain challenges take on a central role.
How to calculate the Life Path
The most common calculation consists of adding together all the digits in the day, month, and year of birth, then reducing the total until you obtain a number between 1 and 9, or a master number such as 11 or 22.
Calculation example
Example: Jean Perrot, born on 01/03/2005
0 + 3 + 0 + 1 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 5 = 11 11 is a master number, so it is not reduced any further. Life Path: 11
Note on other methods
Some practitioners use other calculation methods. They produce the same result in many cases, but not always, particularly when a master number appears during the intermediate reductions.
Segmented reduction consists of reducing the day, month, and year separately before adding them together. Another method consists of adding the whole values of the day, month, and year, then reducing the total.
These variations exist, but the most important thing is to know which method is being used and to apply it consistently throughout the chart.

How to interpret this number within a life journey
The Life Path represents a direction that reveals itself gradually. In the early years, this dynamic may seem unclear, obstructed, or hidden by family, educational, or social circumstances. It is not always immediately visible.
Over time, this number often becomes more central to your choices, your deepest inclinations, and the way you find meaning in what you experience. It does not necessarily assert itself all at once, but it acts as a direction for maturation.
This is also why it should not be interpreted as a label. The Life Path is less about what you already are than about what you are called to embody more fully over time.
The Life Path is not enough on its own
Although it is fundamental, the Life Path does not summarize the entire chart. It should always be interpreted in interaction with the other core numbers.
The Expression Number shows how you take your place in the world. The Soul Urge Number sheds light on your deepest motivations. The Personality Number provides information about the image you project.
The Life Path therefore provides a foundation, but on its own it does not express the full richness or complexity of a journey.
In summary
The Life Path describes a fundamental direction, major lessons, and an underlying pattern of growth. It does not lock a life into a predetermined course, but it provides a powerful reference point for understanding what life encourages you to develop.
It is one of the most structurally important numbers in the chart. When interpreted properly, it helps identify the common thread running through a journey, understand certain recurring patterns, and better grasp the overall meaning of a life path.
